Weekly Roundup #4

16 Sep

Welcome to the fourth weekly roundup of This Is Common Cents! I, for one, cannot believe that it has already been four weeks since I launched this blog. This week I’m going to be celebrating that by doing the first reader giveaway, so make sure you stop by and enter to win! This was a big week for this new site. There was a lot more social sharing of my posts going on, lots of other bloggers linked to here, and I came within spitting distance of having my first four digit page-view day! So lots of good things are happening around here, but without further ado, here is my favorite posts of the week:

Gadget Envy on See Debt Run. Gadget envy is something that I’ve always struggled with myself.

5 Best Countries to Minimize Tax on Modest Money. An interesting concept really. Moving to another country to avoid high taxes could work well, especially for those of us who run an online business.

Cutting Costs and Buying Used Clothes on Prairie Eco-Thrifter. Always a good idea if you’re in need of some new clothes.

11 Personal Finance and Life Lessons I Learned from Bicycle Racing on My Personal Finance Journey. Some great advice about money and life.

What is an IPO and Should I Care? on Free From Broke. I followed Facebook’s IPO pretty closely, and its shown me some of the dangers of IPO’s.

The Tax Effect of Earning More Money on One Smart Dollar. Tiered tax systems don’t always allow you to make as much money as you think you’re going to when you get a raise.

Employees: Saving Money is Great but Making Money is Better on Careful Cents. How about both?

Why Dividends Are the Cream of Passive Income on My Money Design. Passive income is critical to financial independence, and dividends are a great way to earn some.

State of Social Security, a Gloomy Infographic on One Cent at a Time. I personally think the whole system needs to be rebuilt, its about ready to collapse at this point.

Guest Post: Breaking up with Materialism on Add Vodka. Personally I don’t get why this is so hard for some people, things aren’t nearly as important as our culture wants to make you think.
